Thing #1 - Reflections on Lifelong Learning

After watching 7 1/2 Habits of Effective Lifelong Learners video clip, I have reflected on what will be challenging, easy and most important to me. The habit I find most challenging is habit 4 - having confidence in myself as a competent, effective learner. I find technology to be overwhelming at times therefore I tend to pass up learning about new things that would be helpful for me as a teacher. I am not much of a reflector so blogging will not be something I will enjoy doing. I don't feel confident in what I have to say and feel it does not matter to others.

The
habit that I feel will be the easiest for me is habit 2 - accepting responsibility for my own learning. I know that I have signed up for this course and even though I'm behind I know it is my responsibility to continue and catch up. I know that learning new technologies to use in my classroom will help me, my students, and parents. Technology is a great way to reach students and teach to them.

The habit that I feel is most important for me is habit 6 - use technology to my advantage. Technology opens many doors for communication, collaboration, and teaching. Communicating with parents, students, and coworkers are changing. Parents are working more and need other ways of communicating with teachers. Phone calls are not going to always be the best way of reaching them. Emails, blogs, websites, and texts are new ways to pass on information to parents. Technology can be used to share teaching ideas with others around the world. I have access to teacher blogs, websites, and video clips that can help me be a better teacher. When I'm teaching a new concept I might search the web to see what other teachers have done and use it to help me better serve my students. Using technology in my teaching will help me better meet the needs of my students. I can use video clips, promethean lessons, blogs, and create activities that the students can do on the computer.
